One of the biggest problems that vex the development of cycling and pedestrian facilities is that good projects get abandoned or languish for years without being completed. We have lost out on sizeable amounts of federal funding because of this. To address this we need citizen / advocates to take the lead in identifying critical projects, finding the right governmental or private sponsors and building the popular support needed to obtain funding and approvals - and seeing the projects through. Two great examples where this has been done are Walkway across the Hudson and the High Line. Sustained citizen engagement has also been responsible for the success of Westchester's North and South County trails. The Bike Walk Alliance of Westchester Putnam is prepared to support this advocacy for 5 - 10 major projects as well as to make sure that we have Complete Streets Initiatives working every Hudson Valley municipality.
