Mulch mowing grass and leaves, whenever practical, retains nutrients locally, reduces heavy equipment operation, allows for municipal workers to focus on higher value work, reduces damage to curbs and roadways, reduces the amount of road miles traveled, reduces air pollution, improves health and quality of the soil.
The current method of collecting, hauling, storing, hauling (again) and processing grass clippings in the summer and leaves in the fall is a resource wasteful process.
The practice of wasting valuable organic material can be significantly reduced by increasing the practice of mulch mowing grass and fall leaves.

“Love 'Em And Leave 'Em” is a well developed initiative which includes educational and outreach programs that was launched in Irvington NY in 2010.
