Hudson River Housing is proposing the development of a hub for local, sustainable living that links our urban city centers and the wealth of natural and cultural resources in the Hudson Valley. This will be a three-block, neighborhood-scale redevelopment project in the Middle Main neighborhood located at the center of Poughkeepsie’s Main Street. The hub will center around the former Poughkeepsie Underwear Factory through adaptive reuse of this historic building as upper story housing and a first floor community space that focuses on sustainable, local economic development ("Cocinakeepise/Po-Kitchen"). The center will include demonstration green infrastructure on site, and connect to efforts to revitalize the Fall Kill Creek. The arts will be incorporated as a means for area residents to connect with, understand, and participate in new ways of living sustainably and resiliently. Adjacent streets will have new extremely green housing development, demonstrating the latest methods in green living; and multi-family housing and mixed-use property rehabilitation, demonstrating best practices in property rehabilitation to preserve and strengthen the fabric of the neighborhood. This hub will serve to house, educate, and inspire local communities and residents about sustainable, local living and jobs.
